MICROBIOLOGY AND FUNCTIONAL GENOMICS OF MICROORGANISMS PLATFORM
General description
The Microbiology and Functional Genomics of Microorganisms (MI-GEM) platform is located on the 4th floor of Towers A and C and develops activities that use model microorganisms, both prokaryotes and eukaryotes, for research groups of the Department of Biosciences.
Description of the service
1. COLLECTION OF MICROORGANISMS AND VECTORS. The platform maintains and, upon request, distributes strains of Escherichia coli and Saccharomyces cerevisiae, E. coli viruses (bacteriophages) and vectors for prokaryotic and eukaryotic hosts to DBS research groups. The collection of the strains and vectors platform can be consulted at https://sites.unimi.it/bugs_vectors/.
2. COMPETENT CELLS. The platform ensures the regular preparation of competent and/or electrocompetent cells of E. coli DH10b, GM48 and BL21(DE3) and, on request, of other strains.
3. GENERATION OF MUTANTS. The platform is available to generate, on request, specific mutants, both in E. coli and S. cerevisiae.
4. 2-HYBRID. Libraries of vectors and strains for two-hybrid analysis are maintained. Two-hybrid assays with expression libraries for the identification of interactors will be performed upon request.
